- Religøse monument - Historic Old Catholic Cathedral, Library and Rectory (Catholic) - "The Old Cathedral. St.Francis Xavier Church was founded in 1702. The present stately old Cathedral is the third church on this site and was projected in 1825, the corner stone being laid with elaborate ceremony in 1826. Its two predecessors for worship were built of logs, the first of which Indian converts assisted in erecting. Thirty-nine pastors have served this church during these many years. Seven of these have attained high positions in the church, six as bishops and one as archbishop. The four first bishops of the diocese of Vincennes are buried in the crypt of the present church. - Religøse monument - Home of Vincennes Masonic Lodge No. 1, F. and A. M. (Fraternal Organizations) - First Established Masonic Lodge in Indiana. The Vincennes (Indiana) Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons is not only the oldest in the state but the oldest established lodge of continuous existence in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and a part of Minnesota which states comprised the old Northwest Territory. The Vincennes Lodge was organized in 1809 under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Kentucky as Lodge No. 15. - Religøse monument - The Cathedral on Banks of the Wabash River (Catholic) - Mother of churches in Indiana, this bldg. was built 1826 by Father Champomier, & stands where the first log church, built about 1732, stood. In Revolutionary War times, the formal surrender to Col. Geo. Rogers Clark of the Northwest Territory occurred in the log church. The magnificent pillars supporting the ceiling are immense sycamore trees covered with masonry. Three exquisite murals adorn the sanctuary. The crucifixion is from the brush of the great European artist, Lamprecht. The stations of the cross were painted in Europe and, by a special act of Congress, were admitted to the United States, duty free.
